Helmet Hero review

I got a GoPro Motorsports Hero Wide for a gift so that I can use it when I autocross. But I also intended on using it for snowboarding and mountain biking so I bought the Helmet hero expansion kit. I must say, for what you get over the motorsports hero wide, it really aint worth it. But without fabricating my own strapped mount, I wouldn't have a real secure way of mounting it to my helmets. It isn't worth it to me because for seventy bucks, the only thing it comes with that you don't get when you get the motorsports hero wide is the strap that you use to connect to your helmet. It comes with the different mounting clips and the poseable mounting arm, all of which come with the motorsports hero kit already. So unless you're creating all sorts of mounting locations on your helmet (or your friend's helmets), its a waste.Anyways, that said, the strap mount works wonderfully with my Giro 9 helmet. You need at least 2 side by side vents on your helmet to make it work. my helmet has 4 vents towards the front hat I used. The only problem I noticed while riding is the camera tends to push your goggles down a little while your riding so every now and then you need to readjust your helmet and goggles. I got a friend to tell me if the camera was straight and the fish eye type lense made alignment a piece of cake.I also took one of the flat mounts and put it on the front of my board for 1 run. Every couple seconds I looked down to make sure my camera didn't fly off but it held tight! I had to clear the lense of powder from time to time but the video was really cool. The powder was only a couple inches deep. I could see my board flexing like crazy as I went fast along some groomers but the camera stayed surprisingly vibration free the whole time. It was bouncing, but it didn't seem to affect the picture. That goes for when it was on my helmet as well.Anyways, it was fun to bring along and laugh at our selves after a full day of riding.Blast, I totally forgot about the head strap it comes with! A couple of my friends don't wear helmets so I had them wear the helmet cam using the head strap. It puts the camera right on your forehead and fits nicely over your hat. I think it worked just as good as the helmet cam with the exception of it getting in the way of your goggles a little. So really, the strap and the helmet strap mount are the only things it came with that I will get use out of.

helmet add on kit

I bought the GoPro Motor Sports pack and then added The hemet Hero expansion kit, since at the time I bought it it was I cost about the same for both kits as it would have cost me just to get the Helmet Hero pack by its self. So I ended up with twice as many accessories for the the cost of just the Helmet hero pack. I give it a 3 star though because it came with an extra camera housing but the housing is for the older modle GoPro so it does not fit the new HD and wide models. This was not made clear in the product description. I would have sent it back but I wasn't buying the kit for the housing I was buying for the mounts but it would have been nice to have a spare housing. Its still cheaper to buy the kit instead of the mounts separate if your planning on using the all the mounts in the kit. If your not its then cheaper to buy the mounts mounts you want separate. If you are going to get this expansion pack and you have the GoPro HD or wide you should try and see if you can find a expansion kit with the correct housing so you don't have a worthless housing laying around.
