By J. Cooper
I'm new to GOPRO cameras, but I'm not new to diving. Anyone who has looked for an affordable solution to underwater video recording has most likely realized that the options are VERY slim! Needless to say this was my attraction to the Hero 2. The only problem.... the BLUR!There are a multitude of products to fix the blur, but this is the first product offered by GOPRO, and I must say it is an amazing product. The case functions just like the original, with an identical latching mechanism. The difference in the flat front lens. It gives amazing quality and allow the camera to give sharp focus above or below the water. Note: The new lens cuts off about half of the LCD display, but you can still see most of it.My only complaint is that GOPRO hasn't released any clip on filters; however, I doubt it will be long before they do. You can take off the lens cover with a 6 point screwdriver and drop your own gel filters in there if you'd like, but I'm not sure if this will compromise the waterproofing.Pro-tip: Put a little Rain-X on the lens so you get a smooth underwater to above water transition. As Soon as they release some filters then I'll up it to 5 Stars

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3JMLOLB2RYIG8 We just finished our first ocean dive trip and thanks to this dive housing really have some great video and pictures to share and enjoy. This thing works great, we never had any problems and find the pictures and videos to be very realistic and accurate representations of what we saw and also heard. I am surprised that it picked up the sound as well as it did. You can hear boat motors as they pass near, and us talking on the surface and so forth. Even at 30' if I talked it would record it. When sharing the videos with family and friends we have a very accurate recording of what it both looked and sounded like.I will upload a video taken with the GoPro Hero2 and this housing during a dive at Catalina Island 26 miles off the California coast. The video was shot in about 25' of water at a place called Ship Rock at Twin Harbors. You can see how clear and sharp things are, though the camera was moving a bit (we learned to hold it still in our hand as we dove instead of on our heads or gear) Notice the sound in the video too, that is what it sounded like as it was shot, you can near the ocean sounds the waves hitting a nearby rock.*** I just checked the video and after Amazon "processed" it, it looks terrible. The actual video is HD quality, super sharp and looks great. I'll post it to YouTube in HD with the name "Matt following a California Garibaldi fish". You can watch it in HD online. I posted a dozen more diving videos, all shot with the GoPro Hero2 and Dive housing now.Since the GoPro Hero2 came with the original housing we did some testing in a pool before out trip to the ocean. Above water you are fine with the regular housing, but the moment you go under, the dive housing is much clearer and sharper, resulting in an image that makes all the difference in look and feel. It's like having a professional system now.I tested the unit down to 65' over several days of sea water dives and everything works great. Make sure you keep the inside clean and dry. For one dive there was a little moisture inside and that causes a problem. It can also be hard to clean the inside of the flat lens due to how it's mounted. I just stuffed the corner of a lens cleaning cloth in there and twist it around and that took care of it.We played around with the above to under water transitions and found the camera and housing did great. It was fun to be in the water and record someone jumping in and them follow them down into the water with the camera as they jumped. Made for some nice video. For underwater to surface transitions a little RainX or glass cleaner can help so the droplets don't block your video. I didn't really have a problem with this and am happy with how our videos turned out.We did find that using the head strap on the camera caused too much jerky motion, guess we move our heads too much. We got better results by holding the camera in our hand, so now we're looking for some kind of strap that will connect better and work better as a wrist/hand hold to secure the camera in case we ever have to let go.Bottom line, is the housing perfect? Nope, as you can see they cover some of the screen with the wider lense glass, but hey like you really read it under water? It's also difficult to clean but the bottom line here is that it works, and works well! I'm happy with the results, I love the housing so it's 5 stars from me. Enjoy your camera and with this housing, the resulting under water videos. You'll love it. This is a great addition to the GoPro line of products.

I don't understand why amazon is charging so much!! I love shopping amazon but for this i went to my local best buy and picked it up for $49. (every dive shop has them for $49 as well) It works perfect as is and even better with a red filter for ocean filming. No lens distortion and sharp footage!!!
